title: Testing archaeological predictive models: a rough guide creator: Verhagen, Philip subject: 930 subject: Alte Geschichte, Vor- und Frühgeschichte, Archäologie subject: Europe north and west of Italy (Antiquity) [R936] subject: History of the ancient world to ca. 499 [T930] description: Archaeological predictive modelling is an essential instrument for archaeological heritage management in the Netherlands. It is used to decide where to do archaeological survey in the case of development plans. However, very little attention is paid to testing the predictions made. Model quality is established by means of peer review, rather than by quantitative criteria. In this paper the main issues involved with predictive model testing are discussed. The potential of resampling methods for improved predictive model quality is investigated, and the problems associated with obtaining representative test data sets are highlighted. contributor: Posluschny, A. contributor: Lambers, K. contributor: Herzog, I. date: 2008 type: Book Section type: info:eu-repo/semantics/bookPart type: NonPeerReviewed format: application/pdf identifier: https://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/propylaeumdokhttps://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/propylaeumdok/523/1/09_01_verhagen_predictive.pdf identifier: DOI:10.11588/propylaeumdok.00000523 identifier: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-propylaeumdok-5234 identifier: Verhagen, Philip (2008) Testing archaeological predictive models: a rough guide.
