Abstract

There exist luminous quasars at high redshifts which are presumably powered by accretion onto central black holes with masses beyond 10^9 M_sun. This poses the question of the origin of these objects. The model which is employed in this thesis assumes an initial merger of two gas rich galaxies with subsequent disk accretion. The required shortness of the evolution time scales are achieved by utilizing a turbulent beta-viscosity. Simulating such a massive system necessitates the inclusion of selfgravity effects. However, current approaches use solutions of the Poisson equation only in the crude monopole approximation. The aim of this work is to modify the accretion disk model such that an accurate and efficient treatment of gravity becomes possible. Different approaches to implement gravity are investigated using a linear stability analysis. Thereby a parameter range can be restricted in which stable disk evolutions are simulated. The model is applied to two different kinds of disks, AGN disks and protostellar disks, in order to investigate the formation of the central object that evolves from the accretion process. In doing so the focus is addressed to the growth of supermassive black holes.
