Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

This thesis ties in with the theoretical approach of the study „The new Spirit of Capitalism“ (2009) by Boltanski and Chiapello and opens their conception for the analysis of the present financial market capitalism. Based on an analysis of capitalism which is guided by Max Weber the thesis discovers some shortcomings in Boltanski's and Chiapello's attempt to introduce a spirit of capitalism as justification order for the stability of the capitalist system. Since their analytical focus is exclusively on the world of work, they miss to notice crucial shifts in the institutional configuration of capitalism. This thesis aims to introduce new paths in which critique of capitalism is expressed and discloses the challenges of a mainly financial market based capitalist system. Finally, the central question is discussed of whether there is a spirit which manages to stabilize financial market capitalism by gaining overall legitimacy for its shareholder value orientation. In a first approach, troubles between demands for regulation and the need for accumulation of mere virtual capital can be detected.
