Abstract
To date, there is no comprehensive history of the frontispiece of books on architectural theory, although this genre of image very clearly and with an expressive visual language presents the theoretical views of its authors. This article attempts to fill this gap and examines some outstanding frontispieces of architectural theory publications from the 16th to 18th centuries. The main focus is on editions of Virtruv's De architectura (Daniele Barbaro, Claude Perrault, Berardo Galiani.
