abstract: FONTES 64 is a study of the sources for the life and art of Michelangelo Buonarroti written by Cosimo Bartoli (1503-1572), a Florentine humanist, translator, art theorist, and diplomat. Primarily texts from Bartoli’s "Ragionamenti accademici" (Venezia 1567) are treated. The relevant texts are quoted completely in full-text form, together with other texts taken from Bartoli’s letters to Giorgio Vasari and from other printed works by Bartoli.
