description: Incoming stimuli from media are not only processed visually, but multimodally, with all senses and beyond that affectively, according to the initial thesis. The classical binding of a sensory organ to a medium, on whose delimitation the common understanding of multimodality is based, is thus abolished. Can arguments be found for this assumption? Building on the findings of cultural anthropological, developmental and neuroscientific research and on the basis of an exemplary analysis of a video film by the Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, the thesis is not only verified, but the socioculturally relevant consequences are also revealed.
