Malerei als "pia philosophia". By Damian Dombrowski. - [Rezension] subjects: ddc-750 divisions: i-9 cterms_swd: Botticelli, Sandro cterms_swd: Malerei abstract: The review praises the book's comprehensive detailed analyses, but criticises Dombrowski's understanding of the so-called ‘Savonarola problem’. The solution probably lies simply in the fact that Botticelli was also dependent on commissions in the 1490s - regardless of whether they came from supporters or opponents of Savonarola. The artist worked for both groups of clients and provided them with the desired style. This adaptability was constitutive of his success as a painter, but to this day makes it difficult to date his late works reliably on the basis of stylistic criticism alone. date: 2012 id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/artdok.00009369 schriftenreihe_cluster_id: sr-2 schriftenreihe_order: 39a ppn_swb: 1913109100 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-artdok-93699 language: eng bibsort: ZOLLNERFRADIERELIGIO2012 full_text_status: public publication: The Burlington magazine volume: 154 number: January pagerange: 45 laender: LIt oa_type: green themen: T11 themen: T14 title_lat: Die religiosen Gemalde Sandro Botticellis.
