%X The article discusses in all due brevity the known variants of a Salvator design by Leonardo and puts forward the hypothesis that Leonardo's Salvator was created for the circle of Pope Leo X in Rome. Surprising formal parallels between the Salvator and Domenico Aimo's marble statue of Leo X seem to suggest this assumption. In any case, the dressing of Leonardo's Salvator seems to be the key to its understanding.
