In particular in the foreground, there are almost exclusively elderly men with a beard on the one side and angel-like young men on the other. It has long been recognized and discussed that Leonardo’s use of certain figure types in his paintings is deeply rooted in a Florentine tradition. In the first part of my paper I reconsider this discussion in view of the Florentine culture, in a second part I discuss Leonardo’s merits as theorist and his criticism of Florentine art. contributor: Quaglino, Margherita contributor: Sconza, Anna date: 2022 type: Book Section type: info:eu-repo/semantics/bookPart type: NonPeerReviewed identifier: https://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/artdok/9437/ format: application/pdf identifier: https://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/artdokhttps://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/artdok/9437/1/Zoellner_Leonardo_da_Vinci_on_painting_from_the_use_of_types_to_the_criticism_of_types_2022.pdf identifier: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-artdok-94372 rights: info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess language: eng
