I describe here a virtual robotic system which can be physically implemented that applies techniques from artificial intelligence to carry out cycles of scientific experimentation. I am exploring an analogy with the idea of “intelligent” machine, to understand the way we, archaeologists, think. If a computer can be programmed to perform human-like tasks it offers a “model” of the human activity that is less open to argument than the empirical explanations that are normal in philosophy. The purpose is to understand how intelligent behavior in archaeology is possible. abstract_translated_lang: eng date: 2008 date_type: published id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/propylaeumdok.00000511 portal_cluster_id: p-caa2007 portal_order: 0133 ppn_swb: 1392453909 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-propylaeumdok-5111 language: ger bibsort: BARCELOJUATOWARDSATR2008 full_text_status: public place_of_pub: Bonn pagerange: 413-417 book_title: Layers of Perception.
