abstract: Der Zweite Weltkrieg hat einen dauerhaften Einfluss auf die britische Populärkultur und kann als ein Goldenes Zeitalter von Britishness gesehen werden, das einen tiefgreifenden Effekt auf die nationale Identität hat. Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit der Luftschlacht um England, dem "Spitfire Summer", einem historischen Ereignis, dass in Großbritannien den Status eines Erinnerungsortes hat und immer wieder von der Geschichtsschreibung, aber auch der populären Kultur, aufgegriffen worden ist. Sie behandelt eine breite Sammlung von Geschichtswerken, populärer Geschichtsschreibung, Autobiographien, Romanen und Filmen zu dem Thema, und untersucht die Projektion nationaler Identität im Bezug auf die Luftschlacht. abstract_translated_text: Having a persistent influence on British popular culture, the Second World War can be seen as a Golden Age of Britishness which had an immeasurable effect on national identity. This dissertation deals with the many representations of the Battle of Britain, the "Spitfire Summer", a historical event that is of utmost importance for the collective memory in Britain and which is told and retold by historiography and popular culture alike. It treats a wide range of historiography, popular history, autobiographies, novels and films and analyzes the projection of national identity in relation to the battle. The choice of elements to be represented and the mechanics of representation are of special interest, showing how representations construct national identity in a narratological framework. The development of the representation of the event is analyzed from the end of the battle to 2005.
