Applying preference diversity axiomatics, a generalization of the Alcalde-Unzu and Vorsatz (2016) criterion, is developed. It is shown that all previously used indices violate this criterion. Two new indices (geometric mean based and leximaxbased)are developed that satisfy a new criterion. Leximax-based orders act as a polarization index and are compared with Can et al.’s (2015) polarization index. The paper concludes by formulating a new open question: the preference profile reconstruction conjecture. date: 2016-03 id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00020378 schriftenreihe_cluster_id: sr-3 schriftenreihe_order: 0610 ppn_swb: 857215558 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-203783 language: eng bibsort: KARPOVALEXPREFERENCE201603 full_text_status: public series: Discussion Paper Series, University of Heidelberg, Department of Economics volume: 0610 place_of_pub: Heidelberg pages: 19 citation: Karpov, Alexander (2016) Preference diversity orderings.
