We give a survey of somewell known and some recent proposals to present such a distribution, based onsample data. We claim: a diagnostic plot is only as good as the hard statisticaltheory that is supporting it. To make this precise, one has to ask for theunderlying functionals, study their stochastic behaviour and ask for the naturalmetrics associated to a plot. We try to illustrate this point of view for someexamples. date: 1999-11 id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00021466 schriftenreihe_cluster_id: sr-10b schriftenreihe_order: 08 ppn_swb: 1657878643 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-214669 language: eng bibsort: SAWITZKIGUDIAGNOSTIC199911 full_text_status: public place_of_pub: Heidelberg pages: 14 citation: Sawitzki, Günther (1999) Diagnostic Plots for One-Dimensional Data.
