TY - GEN A1 - Taylor, Bryce TI - Unbounded Christianity: Defining Religion for Oneself in Nineteenth-Century New England through Adin Ballou AV - public Y1 - 2016/// UR - https://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/volltextserver/22005/ ID - heidok22005 N2 - This dissertation turns specifically to the recovered writings of Reverend Adin Ballou, a historically neglected New England preacher, to re-envision and re-interpret what it meant to be a "seeker" during the religiously tumultuous antebellem era in the United States. Using Ballou as a lens, I argue that for both the pastor and practitioner, one's own understanding of religion was fluid despite denominational indentification. ER -
