Thus, unsurpirisingly there are intense public debates on labor market policies, which have a far-reaching impact on the lives of a large majority of people. Knowledge of the labor market’s response to changes in demand, supply or its institutional framework is essential to design effective policies. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to a better understanding of labor market responses both to single policies and larger trends. It comprises three essays covering a broad spectrum of related labor market issues. The effects of labor market institutions on employment and wages are a common theme of all three essays.
