The main explanatory variable is an area weighted measure for local tropical cyclone intensity based on meteorological data, which is included in a panel analysis for a maximum of 213 countries over the 1971-2015 period. I find a significantly negative influence of tropical cyclones on three sector aggregates including agriculture, infrastructure, as well as trade and tourism. In subsequent years, tropical cyclones negatively affect nearly all sectors. However, the Input-Output analysis shows that production processes are sticky and indirect economic costs are low. date: 2020-05 id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00028375 schriftenreihe_cluster_id: sr-3 schriftenreihe_order: 0685 ppn_swb: 1700159593 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-283755 language: eng bibsort: KUNZESVENUNRAVELING202005 full_text_status: public series: Discussion Paper Series / University of Heidelberg, Department of Economics volume: 0685 place_of_pub: Heidelberg pages: 100 edition: 2.
