The first two papers in this dissertation deal with incentives and how these change based on the characteristics of the resource, such as its natural variability, and the manner in which the resource is governed. The third and fourth paper are concerned with the underlying economic preferences of the resource users, and how these can change over time and are perhaps shaped by the natural resource.
