In his work we see the breakdown of the opposition of ocio and negocio in the context of a new aristocratic ideology. Mexía’s reflections on leisure and intellectual labor shed new light on the nature of the mental sufferings of Cervantes’s Don Quijote, and contemporaries’ views of the hidalgo ’s favorite pastime: reading. date: 2019 date_type: published publisher: de Gruyter id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00036544 official_url: https://doi.org/10.1515/iber-2019-0014 ppn_swb: 1925425487 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-365444 language: eng bibsort: FOLGERROBEPEROMEXIAA20191105 full_text_status: public publication: Iberoromania volume: 2019 number: 90 place_of_pub: Berlin ; New York pagerange: 117-134 pages: 18 issn: 0019-0993 (Druck-Ausg.); 1865-9039 (Online-Ausg.) edition: Zweitveröffentlichung citation: Folger, Robert (2019) Pero Mexía and the otium of varied reading.
