However, India conducted a nuclear test in 1974, which it termed a ‘peaceful nuclear explosion’ and in 1998, India conducted a full-scale nuclear test and subsequently claimed to have attained nuclear capability. The purpose of this article is to critically evaluate key elements of India’s draft nuclear doctrine. The draft was presented to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet in August 1999 and released later for public debate by the National Security Advisory Board. abstract_translated_lang: eng date: 2002 date_type: published id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00004122 portal_cluster_id: p-hdpaper portal_order: 11 ppn_swb: 164377090X own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-heidok-41227 language: eng bibsort: ALAMMOHAMMINDIASNUCL2002 full_text_status: public series: Heidelberg Papers in South Asian and Comparative Politics volume: 1 issn: 1617-5069 citation: Alam, Mohammed B.
