The work covered by this thesis includes the development and test of microscopic atom optical tools. An omni-directional magnetic matter wave guide and novel types of magneto-electric trapping potentials are investigated experimentally with cold thermal lithium atoms. During the construction of a new setup working with ultracold rubidium atoms, a novel type of integrated magneto-optical trap for a simplified production of Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) near surfaces was implemented. The influence of surface disorder potentials on BECs is studied. A reduction of disturbing effects by two orders of magnitude for a lithographic process over electroplating is found. The impact of thermal noise is investigated theoretically and initial experimental results are presented. abstract_translated_lang: eng class_scheme: pacs class_labels: 42.50.Gy, 03.75.Be, 03.67.a date: 2004 date_type: published id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00004905 ppn_swb: 1643839950 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-opus-49057 date_accepted: 2004-07-07 advisor: HASH(0x556120bfae78) language: eng bibsort: KRUGERPETECOHERENTMA2004 full_text_status: public citation: Krüger, Peter (2004) Coherent matter waves near surfaces.
