Here we show that in a cell-free system the translation efficiency of zein mRNA containing inverted repeats in the 5'- and 3'-untranslated regions is reduced. This translational block is released after deletion of the 3'-inverted repeat. We conclude that the translational block is caused by hybrid formation between the two inverted repeats. The translational efficiency of zein mRNAs, is also affected by varying the length or the primary structure of the 5'-untranslated region. abstract_translated_lang: eng date: 1985 date_type: published id_scheme: DOI id_number: 10.11588/heidok.00008378 schriftenreihe_cluster_id: sr-2 schriftenreihe_order: 030 ppn_swb: 1349723487 own_urn: urn:nbn:de:bsz:16-opus-83784 language: eng bibsort: SPENAATRANSLATIO1985 full_text_status: public publication: The EMBO Journal volume: 4 number: 9 pagerange: 2153-2158 citation: Spena, A. ; Krause, E. ; Dobberstein, Bernhard (1985) Translation efficiency of zein mRNA is reduced by hybrid formation between the 5´-and 3´-untranslated region.
