TY - GEN A1 - Boie, Hans-Hermann N2 - A high-statistics measurement of bremsstrahlung emitted in the alpha decay of Polonium-210 has been performed. The measured differential emission probabilities, which could be followed up to photon-energies of approx. 500keV, allow for the first time for a serious test of various model calculations of the bremsstrahlung accompanied alpha decay. It is shown that corrections to the alpha-gamma angular correlation due to the interference between the electric dipole and quadrupole amplitudes and due to the relativistic character of the process have to be taken into account. With the experimentally derived angular correlation the measured energy-differential bremsstrahlung emission probabilities show excellent agreement with the fully quantum mechanical calculation.
