Abstract

1. Ibn Rusteh (10. Jhd.) hält die Erde für eine Kugel, referiert aber auch Anschauungen, die sie für eine Scheibe oder eine Säule halten, wieder andere sprechen sich dafür aus, dass die Erde halbkugelförmig ist. 2. Al Ma'sudi (+ 956) betrachtet die Erde als eine Kugel. 3. Ibn al Haitam (11. Jhd), der mit einer längeren Passage zitiert wird, hält die Erde für einen massiven Körper in Gestalt einer Kugel. 4. Jâqut (13. Jhd.) referiert verschiedene Hypothesen, die teilweise schon Ibn Rusteh vortrug.
