Abstract
Die Rettungsgrabung auf dem Gelände der 1960 abgerissenen Spitalscheuer in Schorndorf brachte überraschend anstelle der erwarteten spätmittelalterlicher Befunde Siedlungsspuren aus dem 11. und 12. Jahrhundert zutage. Diese deuten auf eine präurbane Bebauung am südlichen Rand der frühstädtischen Gründung hin – ein bislang fehlender Nachweis für Schorndorfs Siedlungsgeschichte vor dem 13. Jahrhundert.
Translation of abstract (English)
The rescue excavation on the site of the Spitalscheuer, demolished in 1960, unexpectedly revealed settlement traces from the 11th and 12th centuries instead of the anticipated late medieval remains. These findings suggest pre-urban development at the southern periphery of Schorndorf’s proto-urban area—representing a previously undocumented phase in the town’s settlement history prior to the 13th century.
