Abstract

Child drawings are the creative language wherewith children express their thoughts and the recognition of the environment. By comparing such drawings from different cultures social differences can be uncovered. Unquestionably, this is an appropriate method to gather information about the cultural dependent differences between the Han-Taiwanese (the insular-majority) and the Yuanzhumin (the autochthonous insular-minority) which are mediated by education, socialisation and cultur. Indications of deficits in socialisation and cultural identity of the autochthonous minority can be found by comparing and analysing collected child drawings from both taiwanese demographic groups. Useful educational actions can be derived from these findings to counteract cultural depriviation of the autochthonous minority and to promote the integration into the taiwanese community while preserving individuality.
