Abstract

Die Praktik der Nachgeburtsbestattung ist ein faszinierendes und vielschichtiges Thema, das tief in den kulturellen und sozialen Kontexten sowohl vergangener als auch gegenwärtiger Gesellschaften verwurzelt ist. In meiner Bachelorarbeit habe ich mich intensiv mit dieser neuen archäologischen Fundgattung auseinandergesetzt. Durch eine umfassende Analyse der sozialen und kulturellen Hintergründe dieser Bestattungspraxis, die sowohl ethnographische als auch historische Quellen einbezieht, sowie durch eigene qualitative Forschung, konnte ich wertvolle Einblicke in die Bedeutung und die unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen der Nachgeburtsbestattung gewinnen. Diese Arbeit trägt dazu bei, das Verständnis für die kulturellen Praktiken im Umgang mit Geburt und Tod zu vertiefen und eröffnet neue Perspektiven auf die archäologische Erfassung solcher Geburtsrituale.

Translation of abstract (English)

The practice of placenta burial is a fascinating and complex topic that is deeply rooted in the cultural and social contexts of both past and present societies. In my bachelor's thesis, I have intensively studied this new archaeological field. Through a comprehensive analysis of the social and cultural background of this burial practice, incorporating both ethnographic and historical sources, as well as through my own qualitative research, I was able to gain valuable insights into the significance and different characteristics of placenta burials. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of cultural practices in dealing with birth and death and opens up new perspectives on the archaeological recording of such rituals of birth.
