Abstract
The TrafU Learning Companion was developed during the conception and implementation of a new track within a Master of Science Geography program at Heidelberg University, namely transformative environmental research (TrafU). While the TrafU-Learning Companion was developed for the TrafU specialization in Geography it was also designed with the intention of being applied in other contexts and disciplines. TrafU follows the idea of weaving the development of transformative competencies into subject-specific academic courses. We encourage you to use the Learning Companion as follows: (1) using the Learning Companion as is for your particular course, (2) adapting the Learning Companion for your particular course, (3) selecting specific components of the Learning Companion. You will be working on four major topics throughout the Learning Companion: SECTION 1: Climate change and Earth systems; SECTION 2: Transformative research, transdisciplinary research and transformative competencies; SECTION 3: Transdisciplinary methods in theory and in application; SECTION 4: Environmental transformative research in practice. Each section is an individual package comprising: the Learning Objectives, an episode of the mystery, a project task, and input material with tasks which can all be found in the Learning Companion.
