Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

The main purpose of this study was to determine the effects of implicit learning, explicit learning and a combination of both (explicit-implicit learning) on technical and tactical skills of basketball beginners. Participants (N=86) between 9 and 12 years of age were divided in three intervention groups (explicit, implicit and explicit-implicit) and a control group. They were tested in a repeated-measures design. The learning phase for the three intervention groups were in the form of "Basketball-Camps” over five consecutive days (25 hours in total). The content and procedure of the training sessions were the same for the three intervention groups. They differed only in the manner in which the instructions were given to the participants. The explicit group (EG) learned the tactical skills through "guided discovery learning" and motor learning occurred through the step-by-step-rules method. In the implicit group (IG), the participants received no instructions regarding tactics or technique execution. Tactics were instructed through "discovery learning” and the techniques through “Errorless”. The implicit-explicit group (IEG) followed the same protocol for tactical and technical learning as implicit group up to half of the intervention. Thereafter and until the end, they were instructed in the same manner as the explicit group. The control group (CG) received no training and took part only in pre- and post-tests. The results in terms of technique performance showed that the EG and IEG could verbalize at the end of the training phase more movement rules than CG und IG. EG also showed performance deterioration by an additional cognitive load. Overall, the implicit-explicit group appeared to provide better performance in the technique. The tactical skills "decision quality" and "support of the players” and also “creativity in the game” could be improved both by guided discovery (explicit learning) and by discovery learning (implicit learning), with no significant differences. In summary, it could be noted that the explicit and implicit learning processes show different effects for beginners in basketball, particularly in terms of technical skills.
