Abstract

The succession of quaternary Neckar-River alluvial fan sediments (Southern Germany) have been studied in a 280 m deep sediment core to investigate measurements of the longer lived U/Th series radionuclides 238U, 234U, 230Th and 232Th) and Pb-isotope ratios using thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS). Anomalous positive d234U values indicating post-depositional uranium-uptake from groundwater are explained by authigene Fe-hydroxid formation. U-isotope ratios of three aquiferes are investigated to paramterize and make up the balance of the post-depositional enrichment. Stable lead isotopes are used to calculate primary U/Th-mass ratios of the unweathered source material. The secondary uranium-uptake of two samples with negative d234U values the post-depositional uranium-uptake from groundwater can be neglected and 230Th-exzess derived ages are in good agreement with stratigraphically postulated ages. A theoretical model dating auqiferes is calibrated with uranium isotope values from Neckar alluvial fan aquiferes.
