Abstract

Let G be a simple algebraic group over a p-adic field F and T a maximal anisotropic torus of G. We determine for the split classical groups and some exceptional groups the set of fixed points of the F-rational points of T in the affine Bruhat-Tits building. We provide a method which yields an explicit description for the tori corresponding to the primitive conjugacy classes in the Weylgroup W of G in terms of generators and polynomial relations. We see that the set of fixed points of the torus attached to the coxeter class is contained in one chamber of the building, whereas this is never the case for tori not corresponding to the coxeter class.
