Abstract
Translation of abstract (English)
In comparison to other libraries, the Heidelberg University library had an unacceptable quota of unsuccessful searches with subject headings. During a practical term, the author of this thesis - titled "subject indexing and OPAC retrieval at the example of the OPAC of Heidelberg University library" - examined this problem by analysing transaction log files and worked out specific recommendations to improve the number of successful searches. Thereon, the library undertook adjustments at the OPAC to come closer to the users' necessities. After having outlined the library's past and given an overview of their catalogues, the thesis presents this first analysis and the changes that have been made at the OPAC. By another analysis it is indicated that the adjustments lead to an increase of successful searches but further improvements of the OPAC are required to meet the users' needs. Based on the results of this research, several proposals for a continuing amelioration of the OPAC are being made.
