Abstract
Nach dem Code der Liebessemantik, den Niklas Luhmann beschrieben hat, situiert sich die hier untersuchte Novelle in einem Zeitalter des Paradoxes, das seinerseits eine Zwischenstellung einnimmt in Hinsicht auf das Preziosentum des 17. Jahrhunderts und die Autonomie des Herzens des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die Analyse zeigt, welche Problemstellungen Rousseau zu überwinden hatte.
