Abstract
Am Beispiel zweier Installationen in der Ausstellung Cady Noland am Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt zeigt sich, wie Cady Noland durch ihre kuratorische Präsenz den Blick produziert. Die Betrachtenden werden von ihr als künstlerisches Material stets mitgedacht und ins Kunstwerk integriert. Ihre Arbeiten gehen jedoch nicht in „Theatralität“ auf, denn sie vermitteln zudem die Distanzierung des Publikums, das die Werke nahezu versunken konsumiert. Auf diese Weise gelingt es der Künstlerin, Kunst und Objekthaftigkeit in einer dialektischen Bewegung zu fassen. Somit widersetzen sich Nolands Arbeiten der von Michael Fried 1967 vorgenommenen Trennung von Art and Objecthood.
Translation of abstract (English)
Two installations in the exhibition Cady Noland at the Museum MMK of Modern Art Frankfurt demonstrate how Cady Noland produces the gaze with her curatorial presence. The viewers are constantly taken into consideration as kind of artistic material and are integrated into the artwork. Nevertheless, her works do not dissolve into “theatricality” since they also convey the alienation of the public who consumes the works in an almost immersed fashion. In this manner, the artist succeeds in capturing art and objecthood in a dialectical movement. Noland’s works thus resist the separation between Art and Objecthood that Michael Fried had proposed in 1967.
