Abstract
Ausgangspunkt des Beitrags ist ein in Bernard de Montfaucons Supplément-Bänden (1724) vielzitiertes, doch in der Forschung bislang wenig beachtetes Druckwerk zu antiken Münzen. Die sogenannten „Medaillons du Roi“ stammen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert und geben einen Ausschnitt der damaligen, königlichen Münzsammlung unter Ludwig XIV. wieder. Der Beitrag versucht die wenigen überlieferten, teils vagen Hintergrundinformationen zur Entstehung und Intention des Werkes zusammenzutragen, auf Unstimmigkeiten in der Publikationsgeschichte hinzuweisen und diese anschließend in Verbindung mit Montfaucons Werk bringen.
Translation of abstract (English)
The starting point for this article is a hitherto little-noticed printed work on ancient coins frequently cited in Bernard de Montfaucon's Supplément volumes (1724). The so-called “Medaillons du Roi” date from the 17th century and depict a section of the royal coin collection under Louis XIV. This article attempts to compile the few surviving, sometimes vague pieces of information about the origin and intention of the work, to point out inconsistencies in the publication history and to relate these to Montfaucon's work afterwards.
