Abstract
Based on the mention of several ancient artefacts that Giacomo Bosio (1544-1627) describes and depicts in his work ‘La trionfante e gloriosa croce’ (Rome 1610) as being in his own possession, the article traces one of the objects, the block statue of the Egyptian official Petamenophis (7th century BC), which is now in the Louvre in Paris. It analyses the reciprocal relationships and interdependencies between the numerous graphic reproductions of the object from the 16th to the 18th century. Four distinct lines of tradition are identified, each of which emanates from Pirro Ligorio, Jean Jacques Boissard, Etienne Dupérac and the anonymous author of Bosio's illustration.
