Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

In this work p-type doping of the ambipolar charge transport materials 4,4’-Bis(N-carbazolyl)-1,1’-biphenyl (CBP) and N,N’-bis-(1-naphthyl)-N,N’-diphenyl-1,1’-biphenyl-4,4’-diamine (α-NPD) with the transition metal oxides MoO3 as well as WO3 has been investigated using infrared spectroscopy. Doped layers were prepared by coevaporation under ultrahigh vacuum conditions and measured in-situ in transmission geometry. In the vibrational spectra of CBP:MoO3, additionial absorption bands appear. By comparison to quantum chemical calculations, these additional absorption bands were assigned to vibrational modes of the CBP cation, that results from charge transfer from CBP to MoO3. The appearance of a broad electronic excitation in the near infrared range indicates that the CBP cations mainly exist as bound charge transfer complexes. From the intensity decrease of the absorption bands of the neutral CBP molecules, the amount of CBP cations was quantified. The agglomeration of MoO3 in CBP limits the interface area between the two species and by that also the amount of CBP cations. It was shown, that cooling the substrate prior to film deposition leads to smaller agglomerates and an increased amount of CBP cations. The formation of charge transfer complexes could also be shown in the systems α-NPD:MoO3 and CBP:WO3.
