Abstract

Johann Gottlob von Quandt (1787-1859) war ein bedeutender Kunstförderer, Museumsfachmann und früher Kunsthistoriker aus Dresden. Seine Sammlungen spätmittelalterlicher und frühneuzeitlicher Kunst, vor allem aber auch der Kunst seiner Zeitgenossen, genossen einen ausgezeichneten Ruf. Quandt öffnete sein Haus an der Elbe, wo er die Bestände präsentierte, allen Interessierten. Basierend auf zwei zeitgenössischen Katalogen zu Quandts Gemäldesammlung sowie ergänzenden Quellen wird in vorliegender Rekonstruktion versucht, den aktuellen Verbleib dieser Werke festzustellen. Die tabellarische Übersicht dient zudem als Grundlagenforschung meiner Dissertation "Johann Gottlob von Quandt (1787-1859). Kunst fördern und ausstellen", die 2019 im Deutschen Kunstverlag erscheint.

Translation of abstract (English)

Johann Gottlob von Quandt (1787-1859) was a well-known patron of the arts, museum expert and early art historian from Dresden. His collections of late medieval and early modern art, and in particular of works by his contemporaries, were widely appreciated. Quandt himself opened his villa at the borders of the river Elbe, where he presented his treasures, to all interested connoisseurs. Based on two original catalogues to Quandt’s collection of paintings and considering additional sources, the here presented reconstruction traces the actual whereabouts of his former possessions. Furthermore, the tabular overview serves as basic research for my PHD thesis "Johann Gottlob von Quandt (1787-1859). Kunst fördern und ausstellen" ["Johann Gottlob von Quandt (1787-1859). Promoting and presenting art"], which is published in 2019.
