Translation of abstract (English)
The study analyses the relationship between an unknown 18th century free version of Giambattista Tiepolo's Neptune married to Venice with the original painting Neptune offering gifts to Venice in the Palazzo Ducale, concentrating on the difference of many details as the colors, the brushstroke and the similarities with the 19th century over-paintings of a restoration on the Palazzo Ducale painting. These similarities arise many questions: who copied from whom, why and when? An excellent documentation of photographs since the 19th. century of the Palazzo Ducale painting reveals these procedures, while on the other hand there are great gaps of complementary documentation in the Italian and international literature as the local Italian archives. The essay includes the reconsideration of Tiepolo during the last quarter of the 19th. century rooted in French literature, relying on prominent Italian personalities as the architect, tutor and art critic Pietro Selvatico Estense, president of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice from 1849 to 1859. The article describes these close contacts and interests, the modern courageous art critics, who did not hesitate to attribute the Palazzo Ducale painting to Giambattista Tiepolo's son Domenico. These events build the intrinsic background in which the famous Tiepolo painting was involved during a dynamic art scene of great energy to set art free from the restrictions of academic classicism, while Tiepolo reemerged for many artists as a leading spirit with his "disinvoltura", his free brushstroke, fantasy and ravishing colors.
