Translation of abstract (English)

The present article examines on the basis of archival source documents the execution of a funeral monument to Stanislaw Malachowski, commissioned at the Roman sculptor Francesco Massimiliano Laboureur, by Jan Feliks Tarnowski, the marshal’s nephew. The correspondence of the two men reveals that the design was in its entirety authored by Laboreur. The execution of the monument lasted from 1818 till 1823, and in 1825 it was sent to Warsaw. Although initially it was destined for the church of the Holy Cross, it was eventually installed in St John’s Cathedral. The author points to some affinities of the monument in question with the works of Antonio Canova.
