Abstract
The measurement of the joined production processes of three electroweak gauge bosons allows to probe the gauge structure of the electroweak interaction. In the analysis presented, W boson production in association with two high energetic photons has been measured for the first time using proton-proton collision data recorded in 2012 with the ATLAS detector. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.3fb -1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt s = 8 TeV. Events are selected requiring the muonic decay channel of the W boson and two isolated photons. The production cross-section is measured in two restricted phase-space regions, with and without a requirement on the number of additional jets. It is found to be consistent with predictions at next-to-leading order precision in the strong coupling. The measurement is sensitive to new physics phenomena, namely anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings. In the absence of significant deviations from the Standard Model, 95% C.L. frequentist CL S limits on quartic electroweak gauge boson couplings are set.
