Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

Even small patient head motion during neuro-functional measurements using magnetic resonance can lead to large artefacts in the resulting activation maps of the brain. Whereas significant improvements can be achieved using elaborate correction methods, the application is often impractical due to the long calculation times required. In this work, retrospective 3D motion correction methods with real-time performance were developed, in which the required calculations are reduced below 25 of measurement time. For typical datasets the method requires ~150ms for the detection of motion and ~500ms for the correction. A model describing the influence of noise on the correction procedure was developed and verified using both simulated and experimental data. An accuracy of <0,2mm was determined for the application of the methods developed to functional imaging. Furthermore it is shown, that the required conditions for avoiding artefacts from retrospective motion correction cannot be fulfilled with current acquisition schemes. Because of the real-time performance of the procedures developed, the possibility of a precise prospective motion correction arises, which attempts to compensate for motion by moving the slice positions and orientations with the patient head. For the first time, it was shown that a sufficiently accurate prospective motion correction can provide the theoretically expected advantages compared to retrospective methods. It was additionally demonstrated that the methods developed could be successfully applied in other areas of clinical imaging beyond neuro-functional applications.
