Abstract

This thesis regards the fermi particle acceleration process at ultrarelativistic shocks as they are supposed to be seen in Gamma-Ray Bursts, short-lived bursts of Gamma-Radiation, which are the most luminous objects in the universe. The distribution function of accelerated particles is calculated using a semi-analytical method extended to allow arbitrary high Lorentz-factors for the shocks. The angular part of the distribution function is highly anisotropic. For asymptotically high Lorentz-factors there is a universal index $s=4.23$ for the momentum power-law part of the distribution. This index is independent of the hydrodynamics, the presence of a dynamically important magnetic field can increase it, steepening the momentum spectrum. Anisotropic diffusion has a very small effect on the momentum distribution.
