Abstract

In this thesis a minimum bias data set was analysed with respect to the A-dependence of the total phi production cross section in pA->phi+X events at a center of mass energy of 41.6 GeV at the HERA storage ring of DESY. The reconstruction of phi mesons decaying into the most frequent channel towards K^+K^- was feasible using the reliable particle identification by the RICH in the HERA-B experiment. Roughly 250 phi mesons have been reconstructed with values of the Feynman variable x_{F,phi} in [-0.06, 0.05] and an average for x_{F,phi} of -0.011 as well as with rapidities y_{phi} in [2.9, 4.3] and a mid rapidity of 3.71 for four different target materials. An empirical fit according to sigma_{phi}=sigma_{phi,0}*A^{alpha} to the phi production cross sections sigma_{phi} in dependence of the mass number A of the used materials results in: sigma_{phi,0} = (1.25 +/- 0.63 (stat.) +/- 0.25 (syst.)) mb/nucleon and alpha = 0.78 +/- 0.13 (stat.). This is the first measurement over a wide range of A and for the used combination of target materials with simultaneous calculation of sigma_{phi,0} und alpha.
