Abstract

A measurement of the beauty and the charm production cross section in ep collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV is presented. The data were collected with the H1 Detector at the HERA collider in the years 1999-2000 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 50 pb^-1. Events are selected by requiring at least two jets in the final state and a high transverse-momentum muon. Both the long lifetime and the large mass of heavy flavoured hadrons are exploited to separate events with beauty quark production from those with charm or light quarks. For the first time not only the muon but all relevant tracks of the two high-energetic jets are taken into account using a multi-impactparameter (MIP) method. In particular tracks from the second jet, that may not contain a muon, are used, too. Differential cross sections are measured in photoproduction, with photon virtualities Q^2 < 1 GeV^2. The results are compared with Monte Carlo models based on leading order pertubative QCD and with next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculations. The predictions are found to be somewhat lower than the data.
