Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

With Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) in combination with very long light paths, many important trace gases in the atmosphere can be detected. Therefore this technique is important for the quantification of gaseous emissions of pollution and the study of the photochemical smog. This thesis deals with the improvement of the spectral characterization of the light source and thus the reduction of the detection limit, by the use of optical fibres. This was proved at a White-multi-reflection cell and a Longpath-DOAS instrument (LP-DOAS). The combination of emitting and receiving fibres in one bundle, offers a new set-up for a LP-DOAS instrument, which is simplier and easier to handle than the commonly used coaxial-style set-up. This new fibre set-up resulted also in higher signal intensity, due to the better transmission characteristic, which was also studied by modelling the theoretical transmission of the old and the new set-up. Therefore smaller and more robust instruments with an enhanced field of applications are possible. During the MCMA 2006 campaign in Mexico City, species like NO2, O3, SO2, HCHO, HONO, Glyoxal and aromatic volatile organic compounds as precursors for secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation, were measured with LP-DOAS. Also the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) Naphthalene and for the first time Methylnaphthalene were measured. Naphthalene was also detected by LP-DOAS in Heidelberg. Additional a new software package “LabDOAS” for efficient DOAS-measurements, analysation of spectra and an automatic evaluation is presented in this thesis.
