Abstract

The growing behaviour of mer-Ir(cn-pmbic)3 is investigated with different measurement geometries. Therefore thin films in the nanometer regime are evaporated thermally under ultra high vacuum conditions. This leads to the development of amorphous films with only weak van-der-Waals interactions between the molecules. The results are compared to quantum mechanical calculations and powder measurements. The vibration modes can be assigned and it is shown, that the molecule grows without any damages. The influence of substrate temperature on the growth is also determined. The interaction between mer-Ir(cn-pmbic)3 and calcium is investigated depending on the order in which films are evaporated and on the substrate temperature. There are clues for a reaction between calcium and mer-Ir(cn-pmbic)3, but which is not due to anion or complex formation. Degradation of the molecule with UV light excitation is measured by decreasing photoluminescence and the degraded sample is checked with infrared spectroscopy. First steps towards an in situ measurement during electron charge flow is presented.
