Abstract
The article deals with the history of the idea of anthropomorphism from antiquity through the 20th-century and it analyses the function of normative aesthetics in the history of architectural theory. The paper also gives a detailed account of 20-century theory on human proportions, of its roots in antiquity and of its ideological background, for example in the case of fascist ideas about proportions.
