Abstract

Im Jahre 1990 erwarb das Germanische Nationalmuseum das Modell einer byzantinischen Gürtelschnalle, das in Caesarea (Israel) gefunden wurde. Es ist bislang das zweite bekannte Belegstück für ein Model einer byzantinischen Gürtelschnalle. Neben einer kunstgeschichtlichen Einordnung dieser Schnalle und verwandter Fundstücke wurde das Modell auf seine Materialzusammensetzung untersucht. Ebenfalls wurden die Herstellungs- und Bearbeitungstechnik untersucht. Zum Abschluss wird der Prozess der Patinabildung auf metallenen Fundstücken besprochen.

Translation of abstract (English)

In 1990, the Germanic National Museum acquired the model of a Byzantine belt buckle, which was found in Caesarea (Israel). It is heretofore the second known specimen of a Byzantine belt-buckle model. Besides an art historical classification of this buckle and related findings, the model was examined for its material composition. The technique of production and treatment were also studied. Finally, the conditions are discussed under which different types of patina form on metal found pieces.
