Abstract
Eine Ausnahme im Korpus erhaltener Klappsonnenuhren aus Elfenbein, Buchsbaumholz und Birnbaumholz stellt eine Nürnberger Sonnenuhr von Thomas Tucher von 1613/45 aus schwarzem Ebenholz und Perlmutt dar. Der Beitrag geht den besonderen exotischen Materialwertigkeiten der Sonnenuhr nach. Neue exotische Werkstoffe aus Übersee regten Instrumentenmacher und ihre Auftraggeber an. Nicht nur Funktionalität und Schönheit, sondern auch der fremdartige exotische Charakter der Hölzer führten zu einer besonderen Wertschätzung. Ebenfalls werden in diesem Kontext Handelsbeziehungen, Holzpreise sowie die spanische Mode berücksichtigt
Translation of abstract (English)
An exception in the corpus of preserved diptych sundials made of ivory, boxwood and pear wood represents a Nuremberg sundial by Thomas Tucher, 1631/45, made of black ebony and mother of pearl. The article examines the special exotic valences of the material. New exotic materials from overseas inspired instrument maker and their clients. Not only functionality, design and beauty but also the outlandish exotic character of the precious wood species led to a special appreciation. Trade relations, prices of precious wood and Spanish fashion are also considered in this context.
