Abstract

Gustav von Klemperer (1852-1926) and his son Victor (1876-1943) rendered great services to the development of Dresdner Bank in Saxony and the Central German economic region. Gustav von Klemperer was the most influential representative of this bank in Saxony until 1914, then Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board and, in the last year of his life, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Victor von Klemperer initiated the foundation of the important Leipzig branch of Dresdner Bank in 1909.

He headed the Dresdner branch from 1914. The National Socialists forced him out of the bank in 1934. Four years later, Victor von Klemperer and his family left Germany almost penniless, but still in time before the Holocaust.

Gustav von Klemperer (1852-1926) und dessen Sohn Victor (1876-1943) haben sich große Verdienste bei der Entwicklung der Dresdner Bank in Sachsen und der mitteldeutschen Wirtschaftsregion erworben. Gustav von Klemperer war bis 1914 der einflussreichste Repräsentant dieser Bank in Sachsen, danach stellvertretender Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender und in seinem letzten Lebensjahr Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrates. Victor von Klemperer initiierte 1909 die Gründung der wichtigen Leipziger Filiale der Dresdner Bank.

Seit 1914 leitete er die Dresdner Niederlassung. Die Nationalsozialisten drängten ihn 1934 aus der Bank. Vier Jahre später verließen Victor von Klemperer und seine Familie nahezu mittellos, aber noch rechtzeitig vor dem Holocaust Deutschland.
